Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between storm clouds and the ground, or within the clouds themselves. Most lightning occurs within the clouds.
According to science, thunder and lightning during rainfall is caused by the negative charged ice crystals are attracted to the positive charge, as well as to charges in nearby clouds and positive charges on the ground. When this attraction is strong enough, the charges join together and discharge, creating flashes of lightning.
