IRON SHEETS SCANDAL: The Uganda Police have confirmed the arrest of State Minister for Karamoja Agnes Nandutu over the Karamoja iron sheet scandal.
“The Uganda Police Force has this morning obtained a statement from Honorable Minister of State for Karamoja Hon. Agnes Nandutu in relation to the ongoing investigations about Abuse of office and Theft of Iron sheets meant for Karamoja.” a statement by the deputy police spokesperson, Polly Namaye reads
According to the statement, The Hon. Minister of State handed herself over to the Police at CID Headquarters Kibuli, where she was assigned detectives to take her statement. She is currently being held at Kira Division Police station.
“The file has been submitted to the office of the DPP for further guidance and possible sanctioning. We thank Hon. Agnes Nandutu for handing herself over to the Police, upon learning of the allegations under investigation. This action has saved Police time and resources and it is worth emulating when in similar circumstances.” Namaye said.
Nandutu arrest makes a total of three ministers who have so far been arrested by Police over Karamoja Iron sheets scandal.
The Anti- Corruption court on Monday charged and remanded to Luzira Prison the state minister of finance Amos Lugoloobi over the same scandals.
Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Goretti Kitutu was also charged over corruption in relation to Karamoja iron sheets scandal and released by the Anti- corruption court last week on a cash bail of 10million and 200million for sureties
