MASAKA: The Buddu County Chief (Pookino) Jude Muleke has urged the government of Uganda to heavily invest in sports in an effort to develop the country through awakening of talented sportsmen and women who have not been given enough attention.
The Pookino was on Easter Monday 10th April 2023, officiating the closure of Lubowa Ssebina Netball Tournament 2023 edition at Buddu County headquarter grounds in Masaka city where he was Chief Guest.
Owek. Jude Muleke noted that the government should Prioritise sports instead of misusing the available sports facilities like Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) which used to host crusades and entertainment festivals before it was closed for renovation. He also urged the sportswomen to maintain discipline for them to excel in promoting their talents and commended Mr. Ssebina for investing in Netball which has not been discovered by the majority .
“The Government should support our private partners who have chosen to invest in sports particularly Netball. If government knew the importance of Talent, we wouldn’t search for sports funding. The government should therefore, support sports talents to raise the National flag world wide.” Pookino Jude Muleke said.
Hon. Sarah Babirye Kityo, the President Uganda Netball Federation who also graced the 2nd edition of Lubowa Ssebina Netball Tournament urged all stakeholders to Prioritise Netball to allow the Federation to discover more talents instead of politicising the game because Uganda is currently ranked 1st in East Africa, 2nd in Africa and 8th in World Netball rankings.
The Lubowa Ssebina Netball Tournament is an annual sports event organised in Masaka city by Lubowa Ssebina Foundation under the patronage of Mr. Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira. Matanga Netball team were crowned 2023 champions after defeating Ssenyange Netball team. The winner and the runners up were all awarded with prizes worth millions of shillings.
Mr. Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira, said his foundation will annually maintain one of its objectives of promoting female talents though Netball which have been neglected for so long.
“The President of Uganda Netball Federation has been moving around the country calling upon everybody to uplift this game because it has raised the flag of Uganda. So we want to make our contribution as Lubowa Ssebina Foundation but we continue to urge government to consider the game by putting in necessary support.” Mr. Lubowa said.
Lubowa Ssebina Foundation was established in the Year 2020. Its establishment was a realization of a dream long born by the founder Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira, who for quite some time has involved in activities that are meant to improve the livelihood of the Communities to which he is linked.
