CORRUPTION: The State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Hon. Amos Lugoolobi has been charged by the Anti Corruption Court and remanded to Luzira Prison until Thursday, April 20th 2023.
Minister Lugoloobi has been cahrged with Dealing with Suspect Property after iron sheets meant for the Karachunas in Karamoja sub region were found in his possession.
Lugoloobi was on Friday arrested in connection with the mismanagement of iron sheets meant for the Karachunas (youth warriors) in Karamoja. He was taken to Kira Division Police Station where he was detained over the weekend until Monday when he was arraigned in court.
The Acting Principal senior Grade One Magistrate, Mr Ebert Asiimwe presided over the Anti-Corruption Court sitting in Kampala and charged him with two counts of dealing with suspect property contrary to Sections 21A of the Anti-Corruption Act (as amended).
The State Minister for planning, Amos Lugoloobi who was shading tears before court pleaded not guilty to charges against him before Anti-corruption Court. However, his attempts to seek for bail failed when the magistrate said he needed more time to peruse through the documents his lawyers had submitted to court.
Mr. Lugoloobi, the Ntenjeru North County MP who had aligned 7 sureties and a land title to seek for bail reportedly received 600 iron sheets meant for the vulnerable people in Karamoja Sub-region. He had used some of the iron sheets to roof a shed for his goats on his farm in Misanga Village, Bbaale Sub-county in Kayunga District.
Minister Lugoloobi is the second minister to be arrested over the mismanagement of the building materials after Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Goreth Kitutu who was released on bail last friday on a 10million cash bail by the same court.
Police and the Joint Anti corruption teams from State House, office of the IGG and Parliamentary Presidential Affairs committee are still investigating the iron sheets saga and more ministers have been summoned to appear before police to record more statements on related charges.
