LWENGO: The Executive Director for Mulumba Foundation Africa, Mulumba Martin Prosper has rallied youth leaders to petition the speaker of Parliament and the president about the state failure to address key issues affecting the Youth in the country.
Mulumba expressed his complete disapproval against gov’t mistakes while addressing residents of Ndeeba Town in Ndagwe Sub county, Bukoto Midwest constituency in Lwengo District where he mobilized the populace to formulate village savings and loan schemes to empower rural development.
He said the Youth in Uganda are aggrieved since most of the programs initiated by the ruling gov’t have never been implemented in favor of the majority population.
He adds that even youth funds budget was trimmed to only 17m per parish in the FY 2023/2024 National budget but it’s also hard to be accessed by the youth in Uganda.
“Programs like Parish Development Model, Youth livelihood program, Emyooga, Entandikwa, Prosperity for all have never realised the targets of the impoverished population as planned, yet government allocates huge sums of money on salaries and politicians.” Mulumba said.
He said no country can ever attest, attain and obtain development when the cost of consumption surpasses the cost of production.
He added that Youths are not just a special interest group in the country since the now constitutes at least 83% of the National population.
Mulumba Foundation Africa says it’s time for government to prioritise the needs of the people and deal with the corrupt officials in a very stringent, decisive and conclusive manner because corruption is emptying the National treasury which has destroyed the state of education, health and other social services.
It was from this community engagement that Mulumba announced his bid to contest for Bukoto Midwest constituency Parliamentary seat in 2026 to uplift the wellbeing of Lwengo residents.
He implored government to fight the high levels of poverty in the country, which according to the most recent statistics from the Auditor general’s report has drastically increased in the country.
He said government should create an environment that unlocks peoples potential to live better lives by cutting the cost of living, providing better education, equipping the health sector, improving road infrastructure, reducing the number of government units and revisiting all government development programs before initiating new ones.
Mulumba Foundation Africa is an NGO that operates in Lwengo District particularly in Bukoto Midwest constituency.
